The property is located just to the north of the town centre on the edge of the conservation area and opposite the entrance to Sainsburys supermarket. Trowbridge is the county town of Wiltshire and at the last census of 2011 the population was around 42,000. The town is bisected by the A361 and is just to the west of the A350 with good access to the M4 to the north of Chippenham and a variety of other local towns with Bath being within 11 miles. Trowbridge station is within walking distance of the site giving excellent rail links to Bath and Bristol.

The site slopes gently up to a higher level at the rear where there is a range of single storey mainly brick buildings of post-war construction. There is a secondary pedestrian access to British Row left of the old school building and pedestrian access via the foot path to the west of the site.
